Schools
Phoenix contains multiple public school districts rather than a single citywide system. Phoenix Union High School District is a high-school-only district covering much of the city and serves students within a 220 square mile area of metro Phoenix, with 23 schools; it draws from 13 partner elementary school districts. Elementary-age students are served by separate K-8 districts such as Phoenix Elementary School District #1, whose boundaries run from 16th Street on the east to past 23rd Avenue on the west and from south of Buckeye Road to Thomas Road, and Isaac Elementary School District, bounded roughly by Van Buren Street, 51st Avenue, 19th Avenue, and Thomas Road. Getting around
Phoenix is served by an interstate network including I-10, which runs through the city as the Papago Freeway and Maricopa Freeway, and I-17, known locally as the Black Canyon Freeway, whose southern terminus is in Phoenix at I-10/US 60. Loop 101 and other freeways extend through northern Phoenix. Valley Metro operates a light rail system along with bus routes, and the light rail connects to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport via the free PHX Sky Train people mover at the 44th St/Washington station, which runs 24 hours a day.
Things to do
Downtown Phoenix includes Papago Park and sites such as the Arizona State Capitol and Rosson House, and the city's Central City area encompasses the downtown core and the Sky Harbor vicinity. Greater Phoenix sits within the Sonoran Desert and receives between 3 and 15 inches of annual rainfall.
