Getting around

Northern Glendale is accessible from Loop 101, described as the only freeway in the Regional Freeway System to cross through the city, and Loop 101 travels north from Interstate 10 and turns east at the city's northern boundary where it meets Interstate 17. Glendale does not have its own major airport; most travelers use Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, though Glendale Municipal Airport in the western part of the city serves smaller aircraft. Valley Metro operates bus and light rail service in the Phoenix area, and a planned West Phoenix/Central Glendale light rail corridor has been studied as a roughly 5-mile route from 19th Avenue and Camelback Road toward Glendale Avenue and Glenn Drive.

Homes and housing

Glendale was founded in 1892 and incorporated in 1910, with its early growth tied to farming, irrigation, and canal construction in the late 1800s. The 2020 census counted 79,667 housing units in the city as of the 2010 count referenced in earlier data.

Glendale is known for State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals football team, and also contains the Arrowhead Towne Center shopping mall.
